How the week unfolds

You start in Pollença and take a side trip toward Alcúdia before the path turns back toward the Cuber reservoir. Then you walk through quiet villages in the Serra de Tramuntana and past the Coma Sema estate.

The next stretch drops into the Orient valley, called the orchard of the island, and passes the pilgrimage site at Castell d’Alaró. From the top of Penyal d’Honor you can see across Majorca.

The last walking day begins in Deià, an artists’ village, and follows the old post path into Sóller. There you can visit an old mill.

Itinerary

Day 1

Arrival in Pollença

Pollença sits at the foot of the Serra de Tramuntana. This is a Mallorcan town day, not a long hike.

Wander the narrow streets of the old town. Stop for a café con leche on the main square, the Plaça Major. Or climb the Calvary, a stairway lined with cypress trees, and look out over the town and the mountains.

Day 2

Coastal hike to Alcúdia

  • About 5½ hours
  • 15 km · 9 miles
  • Climb 690 m · 2,260 ft
  • Drop 820 m · 2,690 ft

This is one of Majorca’s classic walks. The La Victòria peninsula sits between the bay of Pollença and Alcúdia. The path follows the coast and climbs to a cliff-top viewpoint.

You switch back along the ridge, with long views the whole way. There is time to swim in the turquoise bay at Coll Baix. Then the path crosses gentler hilltops and brings you into Alcúdia.

Day 3

Pollença to the Orient valley

  • About 4 to 4½ hours
  • 11 km · 7 miles
  • Climb 220 m · 720 ft
  • Drop 540 m · 1,770 ft

A short transfer takes you to the Cuber reservoir. From there the walk is through tall grass, marked rocks, and stony paths in the Serra de Tramuntana. You look out over sunlit cliffs and green valleys.

The path passes Coma Sema, a manor that was once one of the island’s largest olive farms, and brings you into the Orient valley, near Alaró.

Day 4

Circular walk to Castell d’Alaró

  • About 4 hours
  • 12 km · 7½ miles
  • Climb 490 m · 1,610 ft
  • Drop 510 m · 1,670 ft

Today you explore the Orient valley, the orchard of Majorca. The hilltop of Castell d’Alaró is visible from far off as you cross the Coll d’Orient pass.

Holly oak woods and wide views lead you to Castell d’Alaró, a pilgrimage site with a small hermitage. On the way back, stop at Finca Es Verger and try one of the house specialties.

Day 5

Orient to Sóller, by way of Bunyola

  • About 5 hours
  • 14 km · 9 miles
  • Climb 440 m · 1,440 ft
  • Drop 680 m · 2,230 ft

Quiet trails leave Orient for a high, alpine stretch and a long rock ledge on the northwest face. On the way toward Bunyola you climb Penyal d’Honor on foot. From the top you look over the lowlands of the island and the bay of Palma.

In Bunyola you board the old tram, the Red Lightning, and ride it into Sóller.

Day 6

Coast walk from Deià to Sóller

  • About 4 hours
  • 10 km · 6 miles
  • Climb 300 m · 980 ft
  • Drop 430 m · 1,410 ft

A transfer takes you to Deià, a small artists’ town on the west coast. The walk starts in the bay and follows the rocky shore, then joins the old postal path into Sóller. The coast stays in view the whole way.

In Sóller you can visit an old oil mill, drink a freshly squeezed orange juice, and walk on through the olive orchards.

Day 7

Departure

You leave Sóller for home.
